Nothing for Mother’s Day

These commercials for Mother’s Day crack me up.  Flowers, jewelry, clothes, vacations (alright, I’d take that one) … none of these interest me.  What I want for Mother’s Day is NOTHING.  Nothing for breakfast.  Nothing for lunch.  Nothing for supper.  Nothing in the laundry room.  Nothing in the kitchen.  Nothing on my calendar.  I want to do nothing.  I don’t want to do my job all day long.  I’m not getting kids ready for church.  I’m not feeding them.  I don’t care about having a big fancy meal – I really don’t care what we eat because I’m not cooking it or cleaning it up.  I don’t need a gift to open or even a card.  I need a day to rest.  I need to say, “Ask your dad.” all the live-long day with a loving smile.  And yes, I will happily reciprocate on Father’s Day if that’s what Chad wants.

So you can keep your sad little marketing attempts, they’re not working on me.  I don’t want your junk.  You can’t give me a day off, Kay’s Jewelers.  You can’t give me peace and quiet, Lowe’s.  Go away.

Unless you’re here to  baby-sit my children for free, then by all means, come on in and stay for a while.

  1. Maybe the "marketing dollars" could cover some of that free babysitting – good idea!

Days OFF for all the moms everywhere! Pass the ketchup!

("Catch UP' or Ketchup with laundry on Monday, ketchup with house cleaning on Tuesday, ketchup with lazy fathers on Wednesday)

  2. Josh asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day. I said "a let down". I want "nothing" too! 🙂
