It’s Simply Fact

Easter 2008

My kids love Jesus.  I’m not saying that as a bragging mother (well alright, a little), but it’s just a fact – to them especially.  Facts about the Bible are exactly that to them – facts.  They share them as openly as what they ate for breakfast.  There is no embarrassment, no awkwardness, no concern that they might offend anyone.  The thought that someone else doesn’t know about Jesus or even (gasp) love Him is astonishing to them.  They are a constant encouragement to me that I need to be just as bold with my faith.  Jesus wasn’t afraid that someone might give him a weird look when He told someone who He was, or that He needed to go to Bible study Monday night, or that He loved his Father.  So why am I sometimes?

Last Friday (Good Friday) Grace was telling me they had an Easter egg hunt at school.  I asked her if she got to tell anyone what Easter is really about?  She said yes.  Awesome!  I asked who?  Her response?  The whole class.  Of course.  She told the whole class that Easter is really when Jesus rose from the dead.  She’s seven.  Why is my seven year-old more confident than I am?  Because to her, it’s simply fact.  It’s fact to me.  I know this.  I know that Jesus rose from the dead and sits at God’s right hand.  I know this.  But for me it can be awkward.  For her it’s not.  It’s fact just like the fact that she’s wearing her favorite dress today, and she’ll gladly tell you that as well.  Jesus, help me be more like my children.

Our church put together a video for Palm Sunday.  Grace is on it with a few other kids, passionately telling the story of Palm Story, Jesus’ crucifixion, and His resurrection.  I love, love that girl.  And the bit at the end, where she tells us that Jesus loves us, that’s all her.  That wasn’t rehearsed.  That wasn’t part of the story that they asked her to say.  That’s just her heart.  Please, please watch this video if you haven’t seen it yet.  Or if you have… maybe watch it again.  I’ve watched it several times. 🙂

What would happen if that was the heart of every believer – to tell everyone they came across that Jesus loves you too, and that’s why He died on the cross?

Happy Easter, friends.  He is risen.  The tomb is empty.  And that’s why we are having a big ol’ party today!

  1. That's really, really beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing… I'm again reminded why we're to have child-like faith. What a testimony!
