Chad was having a sleepover in Eli’s room, the girls were in my room…
Ada: I feel less scared when I’m near you.
Me: Well that’s good.
Ada: So can I be near you?
Me: Um…. (we were already sharing a pillow)
Ada: There!
And we’re now sharing breathing space.

Eli (singing): See, I can sing.
Me: I know.  Did someone say you can’t sing?
Eli: Yeah, some people don’t think I sing well.  But I think it’s time I let my secret out of the box.

Me: Daddy and I … Read the rest

Divorce talks

In the car one day the girls were discussing their future plans, whether the wanted to get married or have babies.  Then Grace declared she didn’t want to get married because she would just get divorced.  What??  She explained it’s because she gets mad easily.  So we had a long, calm talk about divorce, what God’s plan for marriage is, and that daddy and I promised God and each other that we won’t get divorced, so we won’t.

Later on I had a talk with a friend about how she keeps hearing of people getting divorced simply because they’re unhappy.  … Read the rest

First day of school, 2008

Grace’s first day of Kindergarten!  Look at that dimple.  She was so excited!  It’s so weird to see pictures of her without glasses now.  She LOVED Kindergarten.  Miss Cyndi loved her too.  She always said she would be an author or an illustrator someday.  She loved Grace’s gifts and encouraged them every single day.

Eli and Ada all ready for preschool (it started two weeks later)!  Eli was in the
Pre-K class and Ada was in the two-year-old class at our church’s preschool.  I’ve loved all of their classes there, and all of their … Read the rest

First day of school, 2009

Here are my Littles, three long years ago.  Grace was in first grade, Eli in Kindergarten, and Ada was waiting to start 3-year-old preschool.

My sweet Ada, her book bag used to bounce on the back of her knees with every step.  It’s funny how looking at this picture makes it seem like yesterday, and a lifetime ago all at the same time. Her cute little duckie glasses. 🙂

Another “first day of school” memory

Yesterday was rather crazy, so I forgot to post a picture.  It turns out I didn’t take a first day of school picture in 2010??  Oops.  Here are some pictures from somewhere near the first day of school…

Grace would be going in to second grade.  I actually got her to cut her hair that summer, it was so nice!  This girl deeply hates to brush her hair.

Here is Eli, all hot and crabby at the zoo 🙂  He was going into first grade.

And Ada.  I call this her … Read the rest

Last week of summer break

It is the last week of summer break.  My days are now spent refereeing and coming up with new ways to separate my children so that there are still three of them when Chad gets home from work.  They are done.  They are just done being together for 12 hours a day.  They each have friends on our street, which is a HUGE blessing, so they can each be playing somewhere else WITH someone else, but those friends aren’t always available.

To help me keep things in perspective, I thought I would post a photo a day of previous years’ … Read the rest

The Fruits of the Spirit (8 year-old style)

Eli’s violence towards his sisters has been increasing in frequency as of late, so today I sat him down with his Bible for a little lesson.  This is not a lesson I can take credit for, I learned it from my friend Sheri and am thankful for it!

I opened his Bible to Galatians 5:22 and had him read the Fruits of the Spirit.  I then wrote those on a piece of paper and had him write what he thinks each one means.  Here is what he came up with:

Joy – having fun
Patience – waiting
Goodness – being … Read the rest

What did you do in Kansas?

I had the great privilege of going to Kansas with my dear friend Sheri and her daughters to spend four days with her two sisters and sister-in-law at “Sister Camp”, which was really four days at her sister’s home doing what we wanted when we wanted.  My kids went to Grandma & Grandpa’s for a week and had camp of their own, while Chad had the house to himself.

I keep getting asked, “What did you do in Kansas?”  I then have a moment like JD on Scrubs where I tilt my head back and to the side, and images … Read the rest

My first baby is NINE!

Grace turned nine on Saturday!  She is kind, generous, compassionate, and tender-hearted.  She is SO musical.  She is starting to make lists like a champ, though sometimes the list content makes me take deep breaths.  She still wants to adopt babies from Haiti rather than have her own (because she found out that hurts).  Camp Lakewood is quickly becoming her very favorite place to be, and she is like a completely different kid there!  It’s awesome.  I’m certain she will be a counselor there someday.

My week with Ada – Days Four and Five

Wednesday Ada finally got to go to Science Central.  She flitted from one exhibit to the next, loving the freedom of being the only one there to choose what we looked at.  Then we took our packed lunches to a friend’s house, where she enjoyed some friend time and so did I!  After that we went to work for a bit where she thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures with my phone, and then we went swimming.  It was another good day.

Then Thursday.  Oh, Thursday.  I cleaned Grace and Eli’s bedrooms.  And cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned.  I came out with … Read the rest
