Grace’s Christmas

A Christmas paper came home recently that Grace had written at school.  Enjoy.

Christ is born in Bethlehem!  Harray!  School’s out!  Ready, set, snowball fight!  Is santa real?  Snow all around.  Together, we’ll be happy!  Mmm!  Hot cocoa!  Absolutely fabulous.  Santa is coming to town!

I love that she has covered all of the Christmas/winter bases.  My little Grace. :)[subscribe2]… Read the rest

What about the boy?

In looking through my recent posts, I noticed I’ve been writing a lot about Grace and Ada.  But what about the boy?  Surely we don’t want to leave him out!

Eli is a talker.  Lately he likes to play the Wii (Lego Star Wars or Mario Brothers mostly) andcomment on what’s happening.  On everything that’s happening.

  • Mom, do you like this music?  It’s calming, isn’t it?  I wish we had this m

  • Mom, I bet you wouldn’t like this level.  Do you know why?  Because there are

More About Grace

Grace is getting another post.  She is getting a lot of my parenting focus right now.  And a lot of my prayer focus, a lot of my energy… a lot of me.  She doesn’t feel like she gets a lot of me, but if she new my heart and my thoughts, she would know that she is.

Grace is my “broken bucket”.  We pour into her what we can when we can, but it’s never really enough.  She also tends to feel she is the victim in life.  This is something that drives me crazy about people, but God is … Read the rest

A Note from Ada

I love finding notes that my children have written, it seems to be where they are the most honest.  Now that they all can write well, I can find notes from all three of them.  If you’ve been a reader for any amount of time, you know that I’ve found many, many notes from Grace.  Many of them are directed at me.  This weekend I found one from Ada.  It was in one of her many notepads.  It says three simple words.  “I will not.”  It isn’t written to anyone, or about anything specific.  It applies to any situation … Read the rest

Happy Birthday, Ada Larson!

Ada Larson, my baby girl, turned six yesterday.  She makes us laugh every day, and she usually doesn’t think it’s funny.  She’s the most quick-witted child I know, and ridiculously smart.  Her world is very black and white, which makes it very difficult to reason with her.  Choices are her greatest currency, so most of the time her choices are things like, “You can have this or nothing” or “You can listen or you can have a spanking”.  She tends to reply with, “I don’t like those choices.”

She could yell at her brother before she could sit up.  She … Read the rest

Christmas. by the Orlikowski Littles

Grace: Well, Mary was pregnant with a baby, so she went to Bethlehem.  She couldn’t find a home in the city to have a baby so went into a stable.  Then Jesus was born.  And Mary wrapped the baby in clothes.  And then there was a star up ahead and an angel told the shepherds where baby Jesus was.  A king sent his three wise men to kill him, but instead they praised him and gave him presents.

Eli: Christmas is about celebrating Jesus since he was born and he died on the cross for us.  Jesus was … Read the rest

Notes from Grace

I’ve written before that Grace likes to write her feelings, it’s one way for her to get them all out that seems to be easier than getting them out between tears.  Sometimes it doesn’t always go so well.  Here are just some of the notes I have received:

  • Call the orphanage
  • I’m packing my bags, I don’t want to be your girl anymore
  • It doesn’t seem like you like me very much
  • I’m leaving
  • I can’t live here anymore
  • And last night’s gem… Stop it right now! It’s like you don’t like me, or we don’t even exist!  What do

Grace’s Conference

Grace is in 3rd grade.  Her teacher said she has improved a lot in the last few weeks with handling her emotions.  (YAY!)  I shared with her that she is in therapy for an anxiety disorder, and that math is one of her triggers.  So her solution was to send home math homework in an envelope so Grace didn’t even have to see it.  Awesome!  Thank you.  Problem and solution.  She also noticed that Grace seems to do better when she is in close proximity, so she moved her to the front of the room.  Again, problem and solution!  I … Read the rest

Eli’s Conference

Eli is in 2nd Grade.  Our biggest concern with him is that he struggles with reading.  Thankfully, they know this and have put him in a reading group to get him the extra help he needs.  I don’t LIKE that he needs extra help, but I DO like that they will do what is necessary to get him to where he needs to be with this.  I have already noticed a big improvement.  His teacher also said he struggles with focusing (Really? ELI?)  So he doesn’t have the grades he SHOULD have because he doesn’t always start his work right … Read the rest

Ada’s Conference

Last night was Ada’s Kindergarten conference, so I feel like we’re finally getting into the meat of things.  I LOVED our preschool, and the conferences are fine, but they’re more about if she can use scissors and how well she knows her shapes.

So here’s where I get to brag. 🙂  Ada is the most advanced reader in her class, and I really can’t take any credit for this.  The girl was just born smart.  She writes in complete sentences and spells really well.  She’s good at math, but doesn’t like doing it (surprise, surprise).  When asked if I had … Read the rest
