Our First Summer Together

This is my first summer not working since 2006…my children were 3, 2, and 6 months old then.  I’m thinking things will be slightly different this year!  Since I like to be honest here, I’m overwhelmed by the idea of summer.  I decided I need a summer schedule for the kids.

When I thought about summer and what my goals were, I knew I wanted to limit their screen time (TV, computer, Wii) without having to actually keep track of how much they’ve been on.  You know, an easy, lazy way to limit it.  I also knew I would ideally like them to be reading, and helping with chores around the house.  We would also need fun built in or they would learn to hate summers AND plans.

I found a summer schedule over at iheartorganizing.blogspot.com and adapted it for our needs.

summer schedule

I have screen time built in in the morning before I get up and cook breakfast, and in the evening when I’m cooking supper.  That’s it.  Unless there’s a stormy day or I need them to have more 🙂  I’m planning on needing to adapt this as the summer goes on, and there may be days when the kids just don’t want a schedule.  I’m ok with that!  What I’m trying to eliminate is “I’m bored!” and three little people grazing all day long.  At the bottom of the schedule I have some fun activity options.

There are 2 theaters in town showing kids’ movies during the week – Jefferson Pointe and Regal, both at 10am, on different days.  That makes 3 mornings a week that different kids’ movies are playing for quite cheap.  They can pick ONE a week to see, or we can get a movie at Redbox.

Also, I have my own cleaning schedule that they will be helping me with.  Monday – laundry, Tuesday – kitchen, Wednesday – living room & dining room, Thursday – bedrooms, Friday – bathrooms.  Hopefully this will help me avoid the someone-is-coming-over-quick-clean-everything!

There’s my survival plan!  Let’s go mommas!  You’re doing a great job 🙂
