Ada, her Grandpa, and her lovie |
My kids have blankets lovingly made by their grandma. They’re their most prized possession. When we travel they come with us. They have to be weaned off of taking them everywhere just like a pacifier. Eli’s is even so valued that when his tummy hurts he puts it in his shirt because it will make him feel better. They want them when they’re tired, sick, hurting, when they get shots… it makes them feel better. And their love shows in these blankets. Eli’s has been sown back together so many times it looks rather frankenstein-ish. Grace’s is so worn it had to be sown on top of another blanket to give it strength.
As we sat in church this morning, I noticed Rich’s Bible. The edges were worn and cracked from lots of use, or “love”. It made me think “that’s his lovie.” Its years of love received and comfort given show.
So… what’s your lovie? What or who do you run to when you’re tired, sick, hurting, when the world gives you shots? I want my God and His Word to be my lovies. I want my Bible to be worn, showing that I love it, and I run to it, and seek comfort in it.
Thank you Lord for constantly teaching me lessons through my children. Thank you for loving me, for being my Daddy, for being big enough to hold me when I need it. Remind me to seek comfort in You alone. Because no one gives hugs like You.
Great article, Janna! I will remember this…it has ministered to my soul! Love you!
this is so good, Janna. I WANT to say that my Bible is my lovie – that is my untimate goal. But, being perfectly honest – I would have to say my calendar looks more worn than my Bible. Or maybe Josh's ears are worn out. 🙂 So, thank you for challenging me to think about this. love you, friend.
