Grace’s Christmas

A Christmas paper came home recently that Grace had written at school.  Enjoy.

Christ is born in Bethlehem!  Harray!  School’s out!  Ready, set, snowball fight!  Is santa real?  Snow all around.  Together, we’ll be happy!  Mmm!  Hot cocoa!  Absolutely fabulous.  Santa is coming to town!

I love that she has covered all of the Christmas/winter bases.  My little Grace. :)[subscribe2]… Read the rest

More About Grace

Grace is getting another post.  She is getting a lot of my parenting focus right now.  And a lot of my prayer focus, a lot of my energy… a lot of me.  She doesn’t feel like she gets a lot of me, but if she new my heart and my thoughts, she would know that she is.

Grace is my “broken bucket”.  We pour into her what we can when we can, but it’s never really enough.  She also tends to feel she is the victim in life.  This is something that drives me crazy about people, but God is … Read the rest

Notes from Grace

I’ve written before that Grace likes to write her feelings, it’s one way for her to get them all out that seems to be easier than getting them out between tears.  Sometimes it doesn’t always go so well.  Here are just some of the notes I have received:

  • Call the orphanage
  • I’m packing my bags, I don’t want to be your girl anymore
  • It doesn’t seem like you like me very much
  • I’m leaving
  • I can’t live here anymore
  • And last night’s gem… Stop it right now! It’s like you don’t like me, or we don’t even exist!  What do

Grace’s Conference

Grace is in 3rd grade.  Her teacher said she has improved a lot in the last few weeks with handling her emotions.  (YAY!)  I shared with her that she is in therapy for an anxiety disorder, and that math is one of her triggers.  So her solution was to send home math homework in an envelope so Grace didn’t even have to see it.  Awesome!  Thank you.  Problem and solution.  She also noticed that Grace seems to do better when she is in close proximity, so she moved her to the front of the room.  Again, problem and solution!  I … Read the rest

Do not be anxious about anything…

…but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving in your heart, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

I’ve repeated those verses to myself over and over again, focusing on each section.  Prayer and petition.  Thanksgiving.  Present your requests.  God’s peace.  Over and over again.  I love, love this scripture.  It’s a little more difficult to help your eight-year-old grasp the concept.

Grace has been in therapy for a couple months now for her extreme emotions and her inability to function … Read the rest

Two Glimpses

This afternoon I was helping in Ada’s classroom.  At the end of the day we went outside for recess.  She was being silly on the monkey bars, and looked up at me while she was hanging upside down.  She said, “Mom, I like the way I am.  I’m glad God made me like this.”  She was very matter-of-fact, just enjoying the afternoon sunshine and the ability to hang upside down and have fun.

Oh sweet Ada, I’m glad God made you like this too.  You make me smile every day.  You confuse me and stretch me as a mom, and Read the rest

Camp Lakewood

Grace went to Camp Lakewood last week with our church for the first time.  This camp is for kids going into 3rd-5th grade.  She was one of the youngest and I swear she was the smallest.  She was “excited and nervous” about leaving us for 5 days (and even bigger, 5 nights!), but decided she would do it.  We went shopping for everything she would need, bought fun things to make it even more exciting and special, and didn’t talk about it too much if we saw the nervous part gaining a grip on the excited part.

We drove her … Read the rest

Two Sisters, a World of Difference

Grace had her first sleepover Thursday night in preparation for five nights of church camp.  She cried and cried the night before.  I didn’t know what to do, so I called my sister Heather because they are very much alike.  They talked on the phone, and Heather asked me if she had to go to the sleepover.  It was completely logical to me that she go, I mean if she can’t handle one night at a friend’s house how is she going to handle five at camp?!?  But no, she doesn’t have to go if this is what it’s going … Read the rest

A Poem From Grace

Mirror, mirror on the wall
who’s the cutest one of all?
Oh my master, Grace oh Grace
you’re the one who has that face.

Mirror, mirror on the wall
who’s the sweetest one of all?
Oh my master, Grace oh Grace
you’re the one who has that taste.

Mirror, mirror on the wall
who’s the richest one of all?
Oh I’m sorry, Grace oh Grace
God’s the One who has that place.… Read the rest
